Dr. Michael Huff was born in Paris, France to an American military family in 1962. His family moved about every two years from then on, spending time near West Point, NY; in El Paso, TX; in New Jersey, Utah, and Frankfurt, Germany. They settled in Bountiful, Utah when his parents divorced in 1977. He attended Woods Cross High School, graduating in 1980.
Dr. Huff served as a missionary in London, England. Taking a break from college, he toured the Far East and Indian Ocean with the USO, performing with a country band for US military troops in Japan, Korea, the Phillipines, Okinawa, and with the Indian Ocean Fleet of the US Navy.
Dr. Huff has music degrees from the University of Utah and Arizona State University. He has been on the music faculties at Westminster College, Weber State University, The University of Utah, and most recently Utah State University. He currently helps to run a non-profit organization that serves Music Education in Utah – the Legacy Music Alliance.
He has led choirs for the LDS Church General Conference on three separate occasions. Having been born in the Church, he has served in various callings throughout his life, and held his first calling at the age of six as Primary Pianist. He has taught Sunday School, served as a counselor in the Bishopric, and for many years as a Stake high counselor, in which position he presently serves. He is not much of an outdoorsman, so for the safety of Boy Scouts everywhere he has never served in the Young Men’s organization.
He and his wife, Susan were married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1987. They have six children.
