One of composer Garrett Breeze’s earliest works, this Violin/Viola duet was first performed at an LDS Missionary Zone Conference in Stockholm, Sweden. Accompanied by piano, the three instruments pass around the melodies of “We Thank Thee, O God, For a Prophet” and “Praise to the Man” as a tribute to the prophet Joseph Smith and the Restoration.
Although written for Violin and Viola, the duet parts may be played by any combination of instruments sharing a similar range.

There Is a Green Hill Far Away (Breeze – SATB)
A favorite of the BYU Young Ambassadors, this arrangement is one of composer Garrett Breeze’s best known works. It was commissioned by director Randy Boothe for the fireside “I Believe in Christ” which toured the United States, the Caribbean, Africa, and Hong Kong. It was then recorded by Dr. Ronald Staehli as part of the BYU Singers Alumni Hymn Project and released as a free digital download (available at www.singersalumni.com). Most recently, it received honorable mention in the 2013 Sounds of Zion Music Composition Contest among works by other well-known LDS composers. The texture of the piece changes dramatically from verse to verse, reflecting the words being sung. It’s most unique feature (the setting in 5/4 time) is also it’s most challenging. However, this quickly becomes natural and lends a new vibrancy to the familiar tune.
*Note* The third verse is written for a 4-part split in the men. In smaller groups, this may be sung by a quartet, which will greatly reduce the amount of time needed to learn the piece.

SATB, organ
The Spirit of God (Breeze, SATB)
This arrangement from composer Garrett Breeze focuses on the words of the hymn, utilizing all six of the original verses sung at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. It was written with amateur ward choirs in mind, calling primarily for unison singing and hymnbook harmonies accompanied by new harmonization in the organ. When taken at the appropriate speed, it is a dramatic and moving piece appropriate for use in sacrament meeting and firesides. The accompaniment may be performed on piano when no organ is available, but some adjustments by the player will be required.
