The Spirit of God (Breeze, SATB)
This arrangement from composer Garrett Breeze focuses on the words of the hymn, utilizing all six of the original verses sung at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple. It was written with amateur ward choirs in mind, calling primarily for unison singing and hymnbook harmonies accompanied by new harmonization in the organ. When taken at the appropriate speed, it is a dramatic and moving piece appropriate for use in sacrament meeting and firesides. The accompaniment may be performed on piano when no organ is available, but some adjustments by the player will be required.

My Gift
My Gift, SATB with Organ (1976)
Written at the request of a young adult religious choir in Salt Lake City, Rock Oakeson composed this dramatic four-part SATB Christmas piece with organ accompaniment. In the key of G minor and intermediate in difficulty (both for the choir and organist), this piece was born after Mr. Oakeson heard the poem, “A Birthday Gift, from a Christmas Carol,” by Christina G. Rossetti. Knowing that with a fuller textual treatment, a choral piece with great emotion and depth could be composed, he set out to write a text based on Rossetti’s powerful short poem. With the text completed, he then set it to music which assists in telling the story of what one can give to the Baby Jesus at His Birth. This is a beautiful piece for both the concert hall and for any seasonal church service.

Behold the Lamb of God
Behold the Lamb of God, by Kathleen Holyoak, won the first place award in the Church Music Submissions in 2002 and a standing ovation in concert. Arranged for mixed Chorus (SATB) and organ, it is a wonderful choice for the opening or closing title for a Christmas worship service or concert. Written in a Classical style for choir but enhanced with dissonance and modern rhythms in the organ accompaniment, the music builds to an exciting and glorious ending. The first verse, with words written by Lawrence Lee, is as follows:
Break forth into joy, oh Israel,
Behold the Lamb of God.
He comes to earth this joyous day
to spread His light abroad.
Angel voices raise their song,
Join in praise with Heaven’s throng.
Break forth and sing, “Hosanna,
Hosanna to our King.”

Angels from the Realms of Glory (SATB – Holyoak)
Angels from the Realms of Glory – Kathleen Holyoak, arranger
The traditional 1816 anthem, “Angels From the Realms of Glory,” is a joyous opening title for any sacred Christmas devotional of church meeting. This fast-paced arrangement is enhanced with an exciting organ accompaniment and will certainly thrill any audience. Follow the words by James Montgomery as you listen:
Angels from the realms of glory,
Sing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s glory
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth.
Come and worship, come and worship;
Worship Christ, the newborn King.
Shepherds in the fields abiding,
Watching o’er their flocks by night.
God with man is now residing,
Yonder shines the infant light.
Come and worship, come and worship;
Worship Christ, the newborn King.
Bridge: Angels, Angels, Angels from the realms of glory!
Sages, leave your contemplations,
Brighter visions beam afar.
Seek the great desire of nations,
Ye have seen His natal star.
Come and worship, come and worship
Worship Christ, the newborn King.
Saints before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear.
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear.
Come and worship, come and worship;
Worship Christ the newborn King.
Worship Christ, the newborn King.
Christ the Lord, our newborn King!

A Child Is Born in Bethlehem (Puer Natus in Bethlehem)
arr. David H. Sargent
Organ Solo
A Child Is Born in Bethlehem (Puer Natus in Bethlehem)
A Child Is Born In Bethlehem for Organ Solo was commissioned by Douglas Bush for one of his European performance tours. He requested a Baroque style piece because he would be performing on Baroque organs. Their tuning requires the use of a limited harmonic palette. Sections of the piece include a straight forward chorale statement, decorated melody, a fugato section, and has a majestic ending. Even though it begins in c minor, it is in a minor.
Arranged by: Sargent, David H. Key: a minor Voicing: Organ Solo Duration: Approx. 3:05
